Davids Experience and Qualifications
I have have worked in various fields as a psychologist for 30 years. I am registered with both the Australian Health Practitioners Regulation Agency and the NDIS and am a Member of the Australian Psychological Society. My experience has included working in Community Mental Health, Disability Employment, Private Practice and Specialist Pharmacotherapy settings. I have worked with clients who have a variety of conditions such as: anxiety and depression, complex personality traits, mental illness, low motivation, chronic illness, burnout from a caring role, unable to concentrate on or complete their tasks, have trouble reading people, have trouble expressing their emotions in a coherent way and may identify as neurodiverse.
I have an eclectic approach and believe that a trauma informed person-centred therapeutic style facilitates an environment where a client feels safe to talk about their personal issues and to use the therapy to develop a realistic perspective and to better manage them.
My training includes aspects of person-centred therapy, interpersonal therapy, psychoanalysis and play therapy. In my Master of Psychoanalytic Studies I did an infant observation which required me to visit the infant (from when he was 9 days old until he was aged 1 year) on a weekly basis for an hour. This taught me to think about his behaviour and what were the motivations of it. I also had extensive experience in report writing and can provide documents such as letters of support and longer reports for a variety of third parties.
I first qualified as a Registered Nurse before becoming a Registered Psychologist and has an interest in the relationship between physical illness and mental-ill health.
